Discover your purpose and have fun along the way

Remind yourself on a regular basis that the goal of your life is not to work 10 hours a day, five days a week for 30 years, then retire. Your actual mission in life should be to discover your calling while enjoying the adventure along the way, one step at a time.

In the end, your legacy is determined by two questions:

  • What difference did I make in the lives of others?
  • Who did I serve and improve?

A Few Exercises to Help You Discover Your Purpose

  1. Make a list of all the things you enjoy doing in life. Be daring, open-minded, honest, and inventive. Make a note of it and call it "My Life List." It may make more sense afterwards, but the point is to be inspired and let your mind to run free.
  2. List the things you can accomplish with ease. Your passions may end up being your mission, but we may not be aware of it because it is so normal and under our noses.
  3. Examine your personal history. We all have distinct obstacles that we've had to face with amazing accomplishment, and you may have a perspective that no one else has. What have you conquered and what do you need to share in order to make the world a better place?
  4. Seek advice from trusted friends, family, and professional coaches. If you're having trouble determining what fuels your passion and can't seem to shake your inner critic, it's time to seek objectivity. Other individuals will see things you don't and can help you locate something buried within yourself.
  5. To get you thinking, ask yourself these thought-provoking, self-discovery questions:
    • What are some things you would do even if you weren't paid?
    • What is the one thing you want to do or experience before you die?
    • How would you spend your time if you had all the money in the world?
    • What would your ideal day reflect? Describe each and every detail.
    • What activities spark your soul?
