Manage your traumatic memories or strong emotions
Grounding is a great method to immediately settle down, and it's also a great tool for improving self-awareness.
Similar to mindfulness, grounding is another phrase for connecting with the Earth and bringing your focus
into the present moment.
The Grounding Chair is a basic grounding technique.
- Close your eyes and find a comfy chair to sit in. Check that your feet can rest on the floor.
- Begin by inhaling and exhaling to the count of three.
- Next, turn your attention to your physique. Take note of how your body feels, as well as how your legs and feet feel. Take note of how your back feels with the chair or surface. Take note of the fabric's texture and how the seat feels.
- Next, imagine your feet are pushing down into the ground. Consider your energy emptying from your mind and exiting via your feet into the Earth.
- Notice how heavy each part of your body feels as you relax those muscles as the energy drains from your head.
- Feel the heaviness move down your legs, into your feet, and the ground.
