When most people struggle to form new habits, they say something along the lines of "I just need more motivation." "I wish I had your willpower," for example.
This is the incorrect method. Research shows that willpower is like a muscle. As you utilise it during the day, it becomes tired. Another way to look at it is that your motivation fluctuates. It changes over time.
Solve this issue by developing a new habit that is simple enough that you won't require motivation to perform it. For example, Instead of beginning with 50 pushups per day, begin with 5 pushups per day. Rather than attempting to meditate for 10 minutes each day, begin with one minute per day. Make it simple enough that you won't need the motivation to do it.
