I won't be terrified or nervous when I'm confident

Confidence does not imply the absence of anxiety. Life throws us many obstacles, and " when we encounter a serious crisis where something essential is at stake, the fight-or-flight reaction will kick in." That means that feeling scared, nervous, or excited will be a typical component of embarking on a new endeavour.

Remind yourself that "fear or nervousness is a normal reaction to taking a risk or attempting something new." In fact, if you're feeling this way, it could be a sign that you're doing something important to yourself.

Techniques for overcoming nervousness

  1. Breathe

When you concentrate on slowing your breathing, you can actually short-circuit your neurological system, making you feel calmer and less stressed.

  2. Think Positively

Ask Yourself "What's the best thing that could happen?" Instead of assuming the worst, think optimistically about the wider picture and visualise it. This will offer you courage and perspective.

  3. Practise

When you practise anything, you increase your brain's connections. The stronger those relationships are, the better you will get at it. The more confident you are in doing something, the easier it will be to do it.
