Only tremendous accomplishments will give me the confidence I want

"Great things." Yes, it would be nice to write that book, establish your own business, or make a big good impact in some way. However, even appreciating the simple things on a daily basis might help you grow confidence. For example, when you notice minor triumphs in your daily life, such as being kind to a friend or colleague, making progress on a list of phone calls, or keeping your cool in a stressful situation, you are contributing to your confidence "savings bank." You can withdraw from it whenever you choose!

The "great things" myth is simply another way of saying, "I can't feel secure until I do such-and-such." Start taking care!

The majority of life does not involve winning the Nobel Prize, being first in sales, or smashing all sports records. While these accomplishments are thrilling, they are exceptional occurrences that will never happen to the majority of us. In contrast, if you focus on your minor victories, you will find enjoyment in the process of getting closer to your goals and acting on your principles as you go about your daily life.

Positive self-talk: "I can build satisfaction and confidence by savouring my tiny victories."
